Further Information

The Roycroft Trophy historic race meeting conducted by the Waitemata Vintage Car Club NZ (VCCNZ) at the Hampton Downs Motor Racing circuit. Held in conjunction with the Historic Racing Sports Car Club and The Classic Motor Cycle Register.

The meeting has been named the Roycroft Trophy in recognition of the contribution made to New Zealand motor sport by AJ, Ron and Terry Roycroft. This year there will be fields for Pre War & Pre 1960 Vintage Sports cars, Historic Single seaters, Sports Racing cars and Classic Saloon/ GTs joined by at least one possibly two grid’s of pre 1963 Vintage Motor Cycles.

In addition to the racing there will be infield displays of Vintage cars, Vintage Speedway midgets, plus demonstrations of the Ralph Watson WW1 aero engine, Steam and Stationary engines.

As if that was not enough on the Sunday there will also be a themed Food and Wine fair, period costumes and live Jazz Bands playing.

It’s surprisingly easy and cost affordable to go racing with the Vintage car Club and this Easter you will finally have the chance. The organising club for the Vintage races is the Waitemata Branch of the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand and Vintage races will be run under the rules of the VCC.

The two Vintage grids will be comprised of cars of the likes of Austin Seven specials, MG J2s, T series cars, Riley Specials, Lancia, Frazer Nash, Ford 10 specials, along with Bucklers, Cooper 500’s and similar cars.

It is anticipated that a separate grid of the faster and larger 1950’s production sports cars, the likes of TR’s, MG A, Austin Healey 100’s, Bucklers, Jaguars and NZ Specials will be organised.

As mentioned racing with the Vintage car Club is very easy and costs very little. This Easter is a real opportunity to take part in what is the only vintage car club race run in the North Island, a memorable event.

So what do you need to go racing in the vintage grids? You will need to be a member of the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand, or a Motorsport NZ affiliated club and you will require a VCC historic speed licence or Motorsport competition licence. The vehicle you intend to compete in will require a VCC vehicle identity form and a VCC competition log book. A MSNZ or HRSCC competition log book and or MSNZ Certificate of description will be acceptable.

This is the first event of its kind hosted by a VCC branch in the North Island and therefore a very significant responsibility. To ensure success, we need the active participation of all our members, both on and off the track. During the coming weeks we will be seeking volunteers to assist in all aspects of the infield organisation, please be ready to put your name forward! The Hampton Downs management team are showing good faith by sponsoring this meeting and have indicated that they hope it can be run on an annual basis, our performance ‘on the day’ will be the measure by which it is judged.

Let others know about the event and help make it a success.
